Judge Sue
Susan Gruber was born in St. Louis,
Missouri. Her first horse
experience was with Kraft Voshaun and the Pinto Association of America.
She began riding when she was 9 years old and by the time she was
fourteen was Miss Missouri Pinto Queen and All Around Missouri State
Champion. Later in high school Susan and her family relocated to the Bay
Area of California where she continued showing Paint and Pinto. Upon graduation from high school she attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. There she graduated with a degree in Agricultural Business Management and concentrated all of her electives in Animal Science.
Upon moving to Ojai, she continued her show career, participating in every event APHA had to offer and showing in every discipline she could, including gaited horses, driving horses, minis and drafts.
Her accomplishments include:
APHA
Top Ten All Around in the Nation, #1 in Multiple events, 1988 All Around Amateur California Champion, 27 State Championships, 2 All Around Open State Titles, Armature Versatility Award (#102), 5 Superior Horse Awards, 12 ROMs, 7 Honor Roll Achievement Awards, And over 50 All Around Year End Club Awards.
Today she competes through her clients. guiding them to numerous Amateur, Open and Youth All Around, and event awards, culminating in 12 2007 All Around Youth, Amateur, and Open Champion clients.
Susan is also a multi-carded Judge and flies all over the United States to judge horse shows, thus keeping her up on the latest trends in the horse show industry.
Some of Susan's personal delights include teaching beginning students, conducting Day Horse Camps for Kids, Breeding her two Paint Stallions and raising their offspring.
She likes that her boarding facility has a family atmosphere where there is laughter in the air. She enjoys letting the kids repaint the
jumps in any crazy colors they want, and braiding the horses' manes
and tails in brightly colored ribbons. Her latest joys are her Percheron
geldings: Adam and Bob. They can be seen from time to time, either being
ridden around for fun, or in parades. Lately they have been spotted with
their bright blue and white wagon behind them and Susan at the reins!
Christmas will bring caroling and wagon rides for all! The most
important part of Susan's ranch and career is the sharing of her love:
the horses. They are and will always remain of profound importance in her
life. There is nothing better than the smell and feel of a horse. She
wishes to share all her life's experience and expertise with anyone who
is interested.
